What is KBYD?

Kingdom Barbell Youth Development Programme is a newly established charity, based in Salisbury, UK.

We provide free, coached weightlifting classes for local young people.

Olympic weightlifting is a sport comprised of two lifts, the Snatch and the Clean & Jerk.

Mastery of the two lifts requires speed, precision, strength, flexibility, courage and determination!

Olympic weightlifting has a positive impact on physical health and psychological wellbeing in young people. Weightlifting enables young people who do not enjoy team sports to access the health benefits of participating in sport and exercise.

We have a group of young people who regularly train in our classes. Quotes below from young people and their parents describe the impact on physical and mental health and wellbeing.

One of our young people recently spoke to a local radio station about the impact of KBYD classes.

Who can come to our free weightlifting classes?

Our classes are open to all young people aged 13-17 and completely free!

We work with other local community organisations to particularly promote our work to young people who would not otherwise have the opportunity to access the benefits of sport and exercise.

The classes involve a mixture of supervised general strength training (like squats and deadlifts) and coaching in the more technical Olympic weightlifting movements.

If you are a young person aged 13-17, you are welcome to join our classes!

Our free classes remove financial barriers, enabling young people to access weightlifting.

If you experience other barriers, do contact us to let us know as it may help us to support you and others to access the benefits of our favorite sport!
